Full Circle

Like any average person I struggled a lot with what and where I wanted to go with my life after high school. The dreams I had when I was younger were easy, I wanted to be a photographer and travel, It was just that simple. I wanted to be like my idols, John Muir, Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, and Margaret Bourke White. After high school I worked at a big company portrait studio that helped kill that vision, in fact it completely drove photography out of my head. The job became repetitive and boring, everything was about sales and how quickly you could get one customer out and another customer in. It should have been about making memories for the family, family photos are not always easy but they should have been enjoyable, fun and comfortable that’s what would have sold to customers not timeliness and a pushy salesman from a 15 minute portrait session. So after four years of that experience I went back to school and spent the next three years in limbo going back and forth with my decisions on life. It was a friend working on an album who remembered I used to do photography and recommended me to his client that gave me the opportunity I needed. They were not the best photos in the world but it rekindled my love for the camera. It was the game changer I needed in my life, it sealed the deal and as soon as I finished up my last semester at the local community college I enrolled at The Art Institute of Fort Worth and I am proud to say in two weeks I will walk and receive my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Photography. Now I am nailing down the travel part of my life and amazingly enough it is starting to all fit into the dreams that a little girl once had a long time ago. Sometimes life does come full circle or you just take a step back and remember the things you enjoyed when you weren’t under so much pressure of being an adult. In so many ways I will always be that girl at heart especially that I am doing now what she always dreamed of
